Atlantic Packaging orders second sludge-to-energy system

November 3, 2015  By Cindy Macdonald

Nov. 3, 2015 — Precision Energy Services has been awarded a contract to engineer, supply and provide technical support for a second paper mill sludge-to-energy system for Atlantic Packaging in Toronto.

PES previously supplied a fluidized bed combustion system to the Atlantic Packaging plant at 111 Progress Ave. in 2012.
Atlantic Packaging owns and operates three paper facilities in the greater Toronto area. According to PES, the company was seeking to reduce tipping fees, transportation and natural gas costs by the use of sludge from its recycled paper mills.
PES is supplying a complete sludge-to-energy system, including a PES fluidized bed combustion system, a 40,000 lb./hr. steam generator and the balance of plant equipment.
The previous system supplied to Atlantic Packaging’s Progress Ave. site uses a fluidized bed of hot sand to combust the sludge, while providing steam to the plant. It can accommodate up to 241 tonnes per day at a nominal 55 to 60% moisture content.
