Continuing the consolidation of its operations, packaging and tissue manufacturer Cascades Inc. has announced the permanent closure of the Cascades Tissue Group plant located on McNicoll Street in Toronto, as of Aug. 13.
The facility produced paper napkin for the away-from-home market, mainly for quick service restaurants. Production will be redirected to the company’s Laval, Quebec, and Waterford, New York, plants. Approximately 30 employees will be affected by the closure. (The announcement does not relate to the company’s operation at Milliken Street, also in Toronto.)
“In line with our restructuring actions to increase our operations' efficiency, this decision was taken to secure our position as leader in the away-from-home tissue paper sector. This initiative will enable us to maximize the production at Laval and Waterford plants, while continuing to offer a first-class product and service to our customers,” stated Suzanne Blanchet, president and CEO of Cascades Tissue Group.
Cascades Tissue Group, a division of Cascades Canada ULC, is the fourth largest tissue and towel producer in North America.
