Domtar donates to backpack program

August 30, 2016  By Cindy Macdonald

Domtar has donated US$100,000 to the nonprofit Office Depot Foundation’s National Backpack Program. The donation will help provide children across the U.S. with the supplies they need as the new school year begins. Five thousand backpacks will be distributed to nonprofit organizations and schools in the Charlotte area.

“Supporting the Office Depot Foundation is important to Domtar because promoting education and literacy are core priorities for us,” said Rob Melton, vice-president of paper sales and marketing at Domtar. “Putting paper and writing supplies in the hands of children in need helps set them up for success in school and in life.”

Through its Powerful Pages initiative, Domtar engages with organizations like the Office Depot Foundation, as well as schools across North America, to share the gifts of reading and writing with children and help equip them for learning.

Domtar’s contribution helps us maximize the impact that this program makes on kids across the country.”
