Fire puts paper machine out of service at Resolute Thunder Bay

December 10, 2015  By Cindy Macdonald

A fire on Dec. 9 has temporarily shut down the paper machine at the Thunder Bay, Ont., pulp and paper mill owned by Resolute Forest Products.

According to local media reports, the extent of damage to the equipment is unknown, but the fire appears to have been contained within the duct work area of the paper machine. The probable cause is said to be an overheated bearing. No injuries were reported.

When Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to the fire call, mill staff were applying water into some ducting of the paper machine.
