Do you have pulp mill experience and curling talent? Join the fun at Pulpspiel. This 40-year tradition will continue in Hinton, Alta., in 2013 as Hinton Pulp hosts the annual pulp and paper “Pulpspiel” curling championship.

The event is intended to be a fun, yet competitive, bonspiel for workers and sponsors who are directly related to the pulp mill industry. The rules governing participation have been relaxed a little this year, to encourage more teams to attend. To be eligible, curlers must have curled in the event previously, worked in a pulp mill for at least one year, have been a pulp mill summer student, be an industry retiree, or be affiliated with a sponsor. The bonspiel will take place Feb. 27 to Mar. 3 in Hinton.

According to organizers, this annual event has attracted teams from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. They are hopeful that one year, a team from Eastern Canada will make the cross-country trek to compete.
