Four pulp and paper companies have been named to Corporate Knights' Best 50 Corporate Citizens List for 2014. These are: Domtar, Cascades, Catalyst Paper, and Resolute Forest Products.

For the Best 50 designation, Corporate Knights measures companies across twelve key performance indicators using publicly available data. Specific indicators include: energy and water productivity; greenhouse gas emissions; leadership gender diversity; CEO-to-average worker pay link; safety performance; employee turnover; innovation; pension fund status and executive pay linked to “clean capitalism".

“I am proud of what Resolute and our employees have accomplished," said Richard Garneau, president and CEO of Resolute. “We are honored that Resolute made the Best 50 list. This recognition speaks to our ongoing efforts to be a sustainable supplier of choice for our customers and a strong civic partner in the communities where we live and work."

Joe Nemeth, president and CEO of Catalyst Paper stated: “Earning this title for the eighth year is an honour and a significant achievement – something that all Catalyst employees had a hand in realizing. This recognition reaffirms that our continual vigilance to raising the bar on sustainability, environmental stewardship and social responsibility is more than just the right thing to do – it’s good for business.”

Corporate Knights Inc. publishes a business and society magazine called Corporate Knights, and produces corporate rankings, research reports and financial products based on corporate sustainability performance.
