Feb. 21, 2017 – The PAPTAC Business Awards recognize excellence in specific management areas and provide an opportunity to promote the highest levels of business leadership in the Canadian pulp and paper industry. The awards were handed out last week at PaperWeek Canada’s Awards Business Luncheon in Montreal, Que.
Resolute’s Kénogami Mill was named the winner of the Safety Leadership Award. The mill worked with a supplier to design a safer, watertight, more comfortable, breathable suit. The suit was ultimately adapted to mill-related working requirements. This suit provides greater protection against both heat and chemicals, while its comfort and breathability provides a dramatically higher quality of work environment and reduces worker fatigue significantly.
Meanwhile, the Domtar Windsor Mill picked up the Environmental Strategy of the Year Award. The mill has maintained more than 90 per cent of the energy generated from renewable resources and reaches 50 per cent of certified fiber at the mill. Domtar Windsor has been awarded the European environmental certification Ecolabel, a first in North America.
