Suzano launches production of fluff pulp made from hardwood fibre

Brazilian pulp and paper producer Suzano has begun production and sales of fluff pulp made from hardwood fibre, named Eucafluff, the Lesprom Network reports.

Suzano is the world’s first company to use hardwood fibre to produce fluff. The pulp is aimed mainly at the sanitary paper market. Suzano says tests show Eucafluff’s potential to replace 70 per cent of the fibres in feminine hygiene products and 30 per cent in diapers.

The company says one of the advantages of the new fibre is its lower energy consumption during processing and defibering.

Eucafluff production is concentrated in the Suzano Unit in São Paulo and is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). An investment of R$30 million in modernizing a printing and writing paper machine allowed flexibility in the production of this type of paper and Eucafluff. The machine’s production capacity is 100,000 tons per year.
