Imerys and Omya form joint venture for micro fibrillated cellulose

A joint venture to promote the research and development of micro fibrillated cellulose (MFC) is being formed by Imerys S.A. and Omya AG. The two announced they are developing a 50:50 technology joint venture for MFC concerning a variety of applications and industries.

The venture will combine the FiberLean™ and Omya’s MFC technology platforms developed by each company into one entity, henceforth to be known as FiberLean™ Technologies.

The first commercial product available, which has already been granted a Food Contact Notification by the US Food and Drug Administration, allows paper and packaging producers to improve quality and/or increase mineral filler loading to achieve productivity gains and reduced costs, says Imerys.

Although the two companies will cooperate on R&D, the commercialization of MFC will be independently and separately undertaken by Imerys and Omya commercial teams.
FiberLean Technologies will expand its process and application technology to deliver products and solutions to a range of markets.
