Domtar volunteers contribute to park clean-up

Fifty volunteers from Domtar Corp. and the Student Conservation Association (SCA) gave a springtime makeover to Greenville’s River Park North on Saturday, May 16.

Fifty volunteers from Domtar Corp. and the Student Conservation Association (SCA) gave a springtime makeover to Greenville’s River Park North on Saturday, May 16.

Employees of Domtar’s Greenville, N.C., mill and their families joined local SCA members to plant native shrubs, remove invasive plants, and haul away debris. The volunteers’ efforts will help restore the 324-acre nature preserve and improve the health of the Tar River.

The River Park North project is the latest in a series of community collaborations between Domtar and SCA; previous efforts have improved parks in Montreal and Windsor, Que.; Kingsport, Tenn.; Lancaster, S.C.; and Nekoosa, Wisc., among other locations. Domtar also supports SCA’s engagement of thousands of local youth in conservation projects in more than 20 major U.S. and Canadian cities.

“Domtar is committed to supporting Greenville and other communities in which we operate because we don’t just work here, we live here,” said Domtar’s president and CEO John D. Williams. “We’re also pleased to support SCA and its mission of building the next generation of conservation leaders.”

“Hands-on conservation fosters lifelong links to nature and allows our young people to gain important job skills and experience,” notes SCA events manager Lori Robertson.

Domtar Corp. designs, manufactures and distributes a wide variety of fiber-based products, including communication papers, specialty and packaging papers, and absorbent hygiene products.
