FPInnovations scholar to study forest management

Dr. Robert Beauregard will join the FPInnovations research organization as its scholar-in-residence for a one-year term that began on August 8. Beauregard has more than 35 years of experience as an educator, forestry and carbon management expert.

As scholar-in-residence, Beauregard will work in collaboration with the organization’s researchers and partners to study the management of forests and forest products within the context of climate change.

“I am extremely pleased that Robert has decided to join our team at FPInnovations as a scholar-in-residence,” said Pierre Lapointe, president and CEO, FPInnovations. “His experience and expertise in wood products and carbon management will be a significant asset to our knowledge-driven organization as we develop cleantech innovation for the forest sector.”

FPInnovations’ scholar-in-residence program provides opportunities for professors on sabbatical from their home institution to spend a year at FPInnovations to broaden their pedagogical expertise, engage in research and help develop scientific solutions in support of the Canadian forest industry.

Beauregard holds a B.A.Sc. in Forest Engineering (1983), M.Sc. in Wood Science (1986), and a Ph.D. in Wood Science (1995) from Université Laval. He joined the Faculty of Forestry, Geography and Geomatics at Université Laval in 2000 and was granted the 2002 NSERC Industrial Research Chair on Engineered Wood Products. He was appointed as dean in 2007.

His research is in the areas of secondary wood processing, composites, wood-based construction, life-cycle assessment and eco-design of wood products, strategic design of manufacturing systems, and carbon management in forestry and forest products. He has received multiple awards for his research and has published more than 100 peer-reviewed research papers and articles.
