Resolute joins Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition

The Canadian government has invited Resolute Forest Products and other private sector companies to join the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC).

After a meeting of the coalition in mid-July, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Honourable Catherine McKenna, issued the following statement: “Today, we have held highly productive discussions about the path toward significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in Canada. The common theme throughout was that carbon pricing is one of the most efficient ways to reduce emissions and stimulate the market to make investments in innovation, and to deploy low-carbon technology.

The statement from the coalition continues: “World economies are shifting ‎towards cleaner, more sustainable growth, and Canada must keep up to stay competitive on the world stage. Carbon pricing uses the market to drive clean investment decisions. It encourages innovation, and helps reduce emissions.”

Resolute, in its company blog, stated: “We are pleased to be one of the first Canadian companies to become a member of the CPLC. Resolute operates in an energy-intensive industry, and we have long recognized the importance of reducing our carbon footprint and transparently reporting on our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.”

As a CPLC member, Resolute “will have opportunities to help Canada develop a successful carbon pricing program by sharing lessons learned and engaging with government policymakers that will design the system, along with participants from other companies and industries,” the company states.
