Packaging seminar addresses recycling issues

Several experts on environmental matters and recycling will be speaking at a seminar entitled “The Future of Paper Packaging”, organized by the The Paper and Paperboard Packaging Environmental Council (PPEC). The event is planned for Oct. 28 in Mississauga, and will be followed by a celebration of PPEC’s 25^th anniversary.

Among the speakers will be Dan Lantz, COO of Green by Nature, the company coordinating the processing of printed paper and packaging in B.C.’s full producer responsibility (EPR) Blue Box program. Another speaker familiar with various steward and producer responsibility issues across Canada is Robert Chant, senior vice-president, corporate affairs and communication, Loblaw Companies Limited.

Dennis Colley, president of the Fibre Box Association, will provide a U.S. perspective on the major environmental issues facing the industry.

Also expected at the seminar is the Hon. Glen Murray, Ontario’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change. The minister has signalled that some major changes in recycling and waste management are on the way for Ontario.

After the seminar on The Future of Packaging, there will be entertainment and a reception, followed by a Celebration Dinner of PPEC’s 25 years of operation. The seminar begins at 2 p.m., reception and dinner at 5 p.m., at the Mississauga Convention Center. Visit www.ppec-paper.com for more details.
