Abitibi Consolidated is expanding its recycling program to include seven new U.S. markets. Baltimore, Boston, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh will now be included in the program, bringing the total number of areas involved in the Paper Retriever project to 23. The program is free and those who make use of the green and yellow bins to recycle their paper products and then bring them to drop-off locations are paid for the materials. The bulk of the fibre collected through the Paper Retriever program goes to the company’s Thorold, ON and Snowflake, AZ mills, who both employ 100% recycled fibre in the making of their newsprint.
