Abitibi-LP Engineered Wood Inc. has inaugurated its second engineered wood facility. Located in St. Prime, QC, the operation produces solid-sawn I-joists.

With an annual production capacity of 75 million linear feet, the facility cost roughly $13 million and has the potential to create up to 40 new jobs.

Abitibi-LP is a joint venture that was established in 2003 by Abitibi-Consolidated and Louisiana-Pacific.

“This is an extension of the joint venture we established with the Larouche facility,” explained Jonathan Rogers, EWP sales and marketing manager for LP. “Abitibi-Consolidated is supplying lumber for the I-joists and manages the operation of the mill. LP supplies the OSB and markets the I-joists through our well-established channels.”

LP said it has been experiencing growth in demand for solid-sawn I-joists, which are typically used in floor construction applications.
