The future of Abitibi-Consolidated’s Kenora mill isn’t looking very bright, the Fort Frances Times Online recently reported. An attempt to chop $175 million from its operations in North America, coupled with the costly status of the mill has rendered its continued operation an unlikely outcome. The Kenora operation, as well as the company’s mill in Lufkin, TX, both require heavy capital investments to return to profitability, however, Abitibi remains uncertain whether or not the roughly $300 million it plans to invest in the future will be directed to either of the operations.
