AbitibiBowater’s newsprint mill in Thorold, ON is newly certified to the Forest Stewardship Council chain of custody standard. Starting now, the facility’s 100% recycled newsprint production will be able to bear the FSC logo.

The certification tracks FSC certified material through the production process, from fibre sources to the consumer, and all the stages in between, including processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution.

The audit was conducted by Smartwood Rainforest Alliance. The same certification is already in place at the company’s mill in Mersey, NS, and plans are underway to certify all of its managed forests to one of the three predominant certification standards in Canada, including the Canadian Standards Association, Sustainable Forestry Initiave and FSC Standards.
