The American Forest & Paper Association is calling on the incoming Obama administration to help revive the country’s forestry industry and preserve its jobs.
AF&PA president and CEO Donna Harman says quick action is needed to help the $200 billion industry that provides employment for one million people. “Forest products are essential to many other sectors, which makes our industry’s recovery central to the broader economy’s recovery,” Harman said. “Reduced access to functioning capital markets and a struggling banking system hurts capital-intensive businesses like our and our customers.’”
Harman and the AF&PA are calling on the new administration to support strategies designed to reinvigorate the industry, including support for manufacturing and green jobs, improving transportation efficiency and a revitalization of housing, the provision of tax relief, protection for pensions and the companies that pay them, and investment in forests.
