Ahlstrom-Munksjö adds paper release liners for advanced composites

March 11, 2019 – Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s North America Specialty Solutions Coated Products arm has added to its AeroBak collection of release liners used in the manufacture of advanced composites.

In collaboration with suppliers and customers, the new product was designed with specific properties and performance characteristics to meet the challenges encountered with low-tack prepregs and demanding ATL processes. The substrates and coatings are customized to meet the requirements of the aerospace segment, but can also be used in ballistics, recreational and wind energy applications. 

The company says its paper designs, which it develops from pulp to finished product, offer lay-flat and dimensional stability properties that assist in heat-and-thaw conditions.

The paper finishes available are MF/MC, Glassine, SCK and hybrid, with basis weight GSM of 65-138 and bleached or natural fibres. Available coatings include solvent, emulsion, solventless, as well as custom formulas to provide abrasion resistance and low silicone transfer.
