Canberra, Australia — During Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s recent trip to Australia, he became the first Canadian prime minister to address the Australian parliament. Australia’s Green party leader Bob Brown used the occasion to challenge Mr. Harper to end the destruction of British Columbia’s ancient forests, and presented him with an eagle brooch, a symbol of the Australian campaign to save Tasmania’s forests from a new pulp mill project. Both Canada and Australia have agreed to aim to end forest destruction to help halt climate change.
