News of a potential buyer for the Elk Falls sawmill on Vancouver Island has surfaced. Whether or not a transaction will materialize before the mill’s scheduled closure next week remains doubtful, however.
According to a recent report by The Canadian Press, TimberWest confirmed that a bidder has signed a confidentiality agreement, and is currently doing its due diligence, but a spokesperson for the company declared in an interview that no knowledge of an offer being presented before the closure date exists.
Unless there is a last-minute sale, the final shift at the sawmill will be May 9, The Canadian Press reported Paul McElligott, president and CE as saying.
