Biden signs order to buy U.S. products for govt contracts

On Jan. 25, U.S. President Joe Biden signed an executive order that would prioritize American manufacturers on bids for U.S. government contracts as part of a $1.9-trillion relief package aimed at stimulating the economy into recovery from COVID-19.

The Canadian Press reports that Biden’s plan to award government contracts only to suppliers that manufacture in the U.S. may cause higher demand for the materials required for construction, such as wood products, steel and aluminum – which could affect Canadian producers if they’re eventually blocked from delivering on those contracts.
