Boise Wood Products is closing its veneer mill in Independence, Orgeon. As of January 25, the Boise Cascade operating unit will permanently shut down the facility, putting 29 people out of a job.

The mill, which has been in operation since 1963, manufactures wood veneer that is used in plywood and engineered wood products.

“The lack of affordable logs and an ample supply of veneer from our other operations in the region are the primary reasons we are closing the Independence mill,” said Bruce Cartmel, Western Oregon regional manager.
