Bowater is closing its sawmill in the town of Ignace, located northwest of Thunder Bay, CP reported.

Citing poor market conditions and inadequate volume as a direct spinoff of the softwood lumber resolution, Bowater is shutting the mill for an indefinite period of time.

Advertisment

CP reported Mayor Lionel Cloutier as saying the company’s decision was a “complete surprise” and that workers were only informed of Bowater’s intentions upon arriving to work. A total of 29 direct jobs and 20 contractor positions will be cut by the closure.
