Canfor has committed hold off on its logging and road construction activities for two years in the Little Smoky region of the Alberta Foothills. This is regarded as a particularly crucial decision, as the area is home to a herd of Caribou that has been labeled in immediate risk of local extinction.

"Canfor’s precautionary approach helps maintain conservation options while scientific research is conducted, natural and economic values are defined and maintained and a recovery plan for caribou is put in place," said Tzeporah Berman, program director for ForestEthics. "We look forward to working with industry and government to ensure that this region is protected and restored."
