Canadian Forest Products has partnered with Suncor Energy in an effort to scale back the environmental ramifications of its operations in northwestern Alberta.
The two companies announced an integrated land management agreement and plan to integrate their planning and operational activities in a 650,000-hectare area near Grande Prairie, where they share a land base.
According to terms of the agreement, they will be collaborating on resource management planning, emergency planning, road and bridge construction, a caribou habitat restoration and reforestation project, the classification and protection of fish streams, the identification and protection of archaeological and heritage resources and the sharing of forest resource data.
“With the number of operators on the land base in the boreal forest, it makes perfect sense to coordinate our land management efforts with other companies such as Suncor, said Mac Palmiere, Canfor’s vice president wood products east. “Through working together and sharing information, we are looking to minimize our impact on the land base, enhancing sustainable operating practices and lowering operating costs.”
