Pulp, Paper and Woodworkers of Canada (PPWC) and Canadian Forest Products have tentatively agreed on an early contract renewal at mills in Prince George, B.C. The contract will expire on April 30, 2003.
Out of the 540 or so PPWC Local 9 members, 66% voted in favour of the agreement. The agreement will raise wages by 11% and raise pensions over the 5-year contract. It will also give companies more stable opportunities to secure new contracts. Members plan to negotiate the agreement at other PPWC locations around the province. PPWC Local 9 is the first local in pulp and paper industry in British Columbia to reach a provisional agreement with an employer other than Norske Canada.
