A tentative agreement has been struck between Canfor and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union.

“We’re very pleased,” said CEP administrative vice president Don Boucher of the deal that includes a four-year term and tackles a number of issues including a wage increase, as well as benefits and severance provisions improvements. “We think this is a deal that reflects the realities of the times.”

Canfor’s general manager of human resources David Scott is equally satisfied with the agreement, saying, “from our perspective this agreement accomplishes two things. It provides our organization with stability over the short term, as well as respecting the needs of our employees.”

If the agreement is indeed ratified by the membership, it is expected to serve as a pattern for other CEP members.
