A company board meeting last month proved profitable for Canfor’s PolarBoard mill. $25.6 million in strategic upgrades were approved during the gathering. The production increase and modernization project at the Oriented Strand Board mill will see the replacement of two existing dryers with new, larger capacity dryers. New, high efficiency cyclones, additional control equipment and improvements to the log handling area will also be included in the upgrades.
“The magnitude of this project will allow PolarBoard to increase its production capacity from 535 million ft(2)/year on a 3/8″ basis to 650 ft(2)/year on a 3/8″ basis, or 21.5%,” confirmed Canfor president and CEO Jim Shepherd. “The mill’s conversion costs will be reduced by approximately 4%,” he added.
The modernization project will start next week and is expected to be completed by May 2005. <br>
