The European Union-proposed trading system for greenhouse gas emissions will hurt Finland’s forestry sectors, according to a study by the Pellervo Economic Research Institute in Finland. PTT calculates the offsetting purchase and changes and will eat up most, if not all, profits across all sectors. The Finnish pulp and paper industry would be especially hard hit with added costs of US$700 million to US$1.5 billion.
