Cascades Tissue Group is a little greener this month. North America’s fourth largest towel and tissue paper producer recently announced an additional 37 items in its away-from-home product line will be EcoLogo certified. The third-party certification program ensures products meet rigorous environmental standards.

The 37 additional certified items supplement Cascades’ EcoLogo-certified North River Brand, which also complies with the requirements of the Sustainable Marketing Initiative (SMI), is Processes Chlorine Free (PCF) and Green Seal-certified.

The North River brand is also made with 100% Green-e certified wind-generated electricity. A company statement noted this eliminates about 19 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions every year.

As of March 1, all Cascades Tissue group products made from 100% recycled fibre were also EcoLogo-certified. Using recycled fiber helps preserve 47 million trees per year and the chlorine free process reuses each drop of water up to 40 times, the company said.

In addition, Cascades is the first company to have their away-from-home products EcoLogo-certified.

“When it comes to tackling environmental issues such as recycled content, energy efficiency, chlorine chemistry and emissions, Cascades is demonstrating its environmental leadership through credible third-party certifications,” Scot Case, Executive Director of the EcoLogo program, said.
