Cascades Forma-Pak, a manufacturer of moulded pulp products, owned by Cascades Canada, has created a new product. SaniZorb, a pig maternity mat, has been designed for piglets in farrowing units and is made from 100% recycled fibre.
The mat is expected to help offset some of the environmental disadvantages associated with other products currently on the market, such as the necessity of use of strong detergents for washing.
The new mat disintegrates in the trenches that lead to the manure pit. The mat provides a healthier environment for the piglet, while its grooves serve to keep the piglet in place, thereby reducing the chance of leg dislocation.
