Cascades will contribute to setting up the Centre for Sustainable Development by donating $150,000.

“The Centre for Sustainable Development initiative is in line with our values and vision, and it was an obvious choice for Cascades to get involved with it. It will enable organizations working to preserve our environment to share their resources. This synergy will be to their advantage,” states Alain Lemaire, president and CEO of Cascades.

Eight organizations from social and environmental sectors — Equiterre, Centre de la petite enfance Le Petit Réseau, Centre québécois du droit de l’environnement, Conseil régional de l’environnement de Montréal, ENvironnement JEUnesse, Option consommateurs, Regroupement du service Eco-quartier, Regroupement national des conseils régionaux de l’environnement du Québec – form the Centre for Sustainable Development. The centre is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to build and operate in downtown Montreal a green demonstration building.

This social and environmental project will house offices for the eight member-organizations, as well as other organizations that share its values, and will become a place for education and research on sustainable development.

Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products composed mainly of recycled fibres.
