Canadian Auto Worker’s Union president Buzz Hargrove is beseeching New Brunswick premier Bernard Lord to provide the money to complete construction of Nackawic’s pulp mill.

Hargrove paid a visit to Nackawic on September 16th to meet with CAW leaders. After the session Hargrove said it was decided to call on the NB government to make the required funding available to continue construction work on the mill.

“My understanding is that most of the work was completed, as the mill was scheduled to open on September 20th. Therefore, it should not be a big cost to finish the construction work,” he said.

Hargrove also confirmed that with the mill in operation, the union would work closely with the provincial and federal governments and the community to find a buyer able to ensure the long-term viability of the facility, including the 400 direct, and hundreds of additional spin-off jobs.
