Imports of pulp to China continue to increase. According to the China Customs Bureau, on a year-to year basis, imports were up almost 43 percent in January, 2008, to 941,324 tonnes. This follows a 48.6 percent rise in December. Broken down, the January stats indicate bleached softwood kraft pulp (BSKP) imports up 52.5 percent to 370,250 tonnes, with Canadian BSKP or northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) up 84.3 percent year over year to 127,103 tonnes. January imports for bleached hardwood kraft pulp also showed their legs; at almost 330,000 tonnes, BHKP imports are up 39.1 percent year-over-year and 50.8 percent month-over-month.
