STAMFORD, CT — MeadWestvaco Corporation will shut down four coated paper machines and related equipment permanently beginning April 1, and to be completed May 31, 2002.
Three paper machines and associated equipment will shut down in Chillicothe, OH, and one in Luke, MD. The shut downs will eliminate 350 jobs in Ohio and about 75 jobs in Maryland. The company said production will be transferred elsewhere.

This series of shutdowns follows the closure of Westvaco’s Tyrone, PA, paper mill in October 2001.
