Production at two of Ainsworth Lumber’s oriented strand board mills in Minnesota has ceased.

Production at two of Ainsworth Lumber’s oriented strand board mills in Minnesota has ceased.

The two facilities involved, the company’s Grand Rapids mill and its Cook facility, are closed for an indefinite period of time.

CEO and chairman Brian Ainsworth cited high production costs and weak market conditions for the decision.

“The continued losses due to very high Minnesota wood costs, increased costs for freight and resins, and prevailing market prices have regrettably forced us to take this action. Unfortunately, we do not foresee any near term improvement in either the cost or market conditions,” he said.

Roughly 300 people will be put out of work as a direct result of the closures.
