LOS ANGELES, CA — Forestweb reports 52 North American pulp and paper mills and 45 sawmills shut their doors in 2001 — that’s more than 6.8 million tons worth of lost production, and 14,500 jobs cut.
The web site says Great Northern Paper is taking downtime in Maine, while Fort Orange Paper mill entirely closed its doors. It adds that more shutdowns are likely to occur in both sectors.
