Kimberly, WI — Metso Paper has been selected as a major supplier for Stora Enso’s coated fine paper machine rebuild of PM97 in Kimberly, WI. The modernization, designed to improve the machine’s paper quality and operating speed, will be completed during 2004.

The Metso Paper delivery will include a headbox, shoe press, pre-coating unit, blow boxes and air systems, and tail threading equipment. In addition Metso Automation will upgrade the mill’s current control system to a Metso DNA system.

Toronto, ON — Cascades Inc. selected Voith Paper as the supplier to provide coater rebuilds at mills in Toronto, ON and St. Jerome, QC.

At Cascades Boxboard in Toronto, producer of coated multi-ply boards, a single air-knife coater will be rebuilt with a new dual air knife metering assembly.

At Cascades Fine Papers Group in St. Jerome, QC, Voith will refurbish an existing film press coater for installation on PM8.

Rouen, France — Kimberly-Clark chose Sandusky in rebuilding its machine in Rouen, France. A wet end former from one of the tissue manufacturer’s UK mills will be fully refurbished at the Sandusky plant in Bolton, UK, before being shipped to France for installation on the French mill’s existing paper machine.

Mason, OH — Kadant Black Clawson will be installing a CH(r) pressure screen at a tissue operation in Plattsburgh, NY. The new screen will be added to the mill’s existing broke screening system.

Fort Myers, FL — Saftronics, an innovator of advanced, variable-speed drives and starters for electric motors, announces a strategic marketing alliance with the ABB Inc., and the launch of the new line of advanced compact DC drives manufactured by ABB. A member of the new Saftronics DC drive family, the DC400 is a 3-phase Digital DC drive designed for stand-alone applications, manufactured by ABB and marketed by Saftronics.

Graz, Austria — Andritz signed an agreement in July 2003 to acquire Heinrich Fiedler GmbH & Co. KG, Germany. Following the conclusion of the due diligence investigation and the approval by the antitrust authorities, the contract is to enter into force with immediate effect. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Samoa, CA — Stockton Pacific Enterprises, Inc. has retained International Forest Products Corporation (IFP) of Foxboro, MA, as its exclusive worldwide sales agent.

ROCKTON, IL — The Austrian group W. Hamburger AG has selected Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and PMT Italia S.p.A. as supplier of the machine for its new mill in Spremberg, Germany. The new machine, which is scheduled to start up in the first quarter of 2005, will be designed to produce white top liner, test liner and fluting with a total basis weight range of 90 to 250 g/m2.
