Doman and LaPointe strike deal to save Port Alice mill

May 10, 2004  By Pulp & Paper Canada

Doman Industries Ltd. has reached a conjectural agreement with LaPointe Partners Inc. that will secure the immediate future of Doman’s Port Alice pulp mill. Located on the northern part of Vancouver Island, the mill will be sold to LaPointe for one dollar, plus inventory.

The continued employment of the mill’s 320 workers was also factored into the deal. In addition, LaPointe has pledged to absorb any costs relating to liability, or potential cleanup costs should the mill close permanently.
