Winners of the 2014 PPI Awards, sponsored by RISI, a leading information provider for the global forest products industry, were announced on Oct. 8 at a ceremony in Boston. Among the winners were Domtar’s Windsor, Que., mill, for Environmental Strategy of the Year, and Kruger Products as IT’s Tissue Company of the Year.

According to RISI, the PPI Awards honor leadership, vision, innovation and strategic accomplishments within the pulp and paper industry, and are the only global awards dedicated to recognizing the achievements of companies, mills and individuals in the sector.

For the Environmental Strategy of the Year, Domtar states that the Windsor Mill was chosen for its steadfast dedication to reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, energy use and waste, as well as championing the use of raw materials sourced from Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified sources.

Domtar also received an award for The Innovative Printing & Writing Campaign of the Year, recognizing Domtar’s Paper Fun Truck initiative. This whimsically decorated truck visited schools, businesses, and retirement communities to show how paper remains fun and valuable. The Paper Fun Truck is part of Domtar’s PAPERbecause campaign, which uses humor and facts to debunk myths about the paperless society.
