Emerald ash borer found outside of regulated area in Quebec

July 11, 2019 – Emerald ash borer (EAB) has been confirmed in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Que, outside of the current regulated areas for EAB in Canada.

According to a government news release, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced this finding on July 5.

The CFIA has consequently expanded the regulated area in Quebec to include the regional county municipalities of Montmagny, L’Islet and Kamouraska, after evaluating the risk of the beetle spreading to adjacent territories.

As a result, the movement of ash materials, including logs, branches and wood chips, and all species of firewood out of the regulated area is restricted.
