About 40 employees of Nanaimo Forest Products’ Harmac mill reportedly will be back to work within four months as the pulp mill plans to begin a second line of operation.

According to the Nanaimo Daily News, the mill is also proceeding with its plan to start a chipping operation to reduce its dependence on sawmills for its fibre supply.

A Nanaimo Forest Products spokesman was also quoted as saying Harmac is in talks with the City of Nanaimo – which is planning ahead for infrastructure projects to meet the demand of new developments in the south end — over joint-use of the mill’s water systems and water licence, as well as its modern effluent-treatment plant.
