Conservationists critical of Alberta caribou plan

Alberta’s draft plan to facilitate the recovery of woodland caribou herds is facing criticism from wildlife conservation groups, CBC News reports. According to the CBC article, “The draft plan includes an experiment to fence a 100-square-kilometre area where caribou would be able to breed, and any predators that pose a threat to the enclosed herd would be killed.”

Critics told CBC News that destroying predators and competitors provides an unknown benefit to caribou, and is unethical.
