Fraser Papers will be taking maintenance downtime at its Berlin-Gorham and Edmundston-Madawaska pulp and paper operations during the second quarter of 2005.

Although the maintenance was originally planned for the fourth quarter, declines in commodity uncoated freesheet pricing and low inventories, coupled with the typical seasonal slowdown in the financial printing paper market, led to the earlier shutdown.

The pulp mills at Edmundston, NB and Berlin, NH, will each shut down for one week. The paper facilities at Madawaska, ME and Gorham, NH, will take two days and seven days respectively. However, the downtime at the Berlin-Gorham facility may be extended, depending on market conditions.
