Fraser Papers is taking downtime at its hardwood kraft pulp mill in Thurso, QC.

The facility will cease production over the holidays, starting December 15, and resuming operations on January 6, 2009, subject to orders.

The company says the closure will allow it to rebalance its pulp inventory with current customer demand. The move will slash 14,000 tonnes of pulp from the market. Fraser did not confirm how many jobs will be impacted by the decision.
