Fraser Papers is hoping to have laid-off employees back on the job by Christmas, the CBC has reported.
Close to 375 employees will find themselves without a job as of October 21st when the company’s sawmills at Juniper and Plaster Rock start what the company hopes will be a short, temporary shutdown.
Citing weak export prices, high fuel costs and a soaring Canadian dollar as reasons for the closure, Fraser Papers claims it is striving to keep the shutdown to an approximate one-month period.
