RONA’s new wood procurement policy has earned two thumbs up from the Forest Stewardship Council of Canada. RONA confirmed its goal to ensure that by 2011, 90% of all the commodity dimension lumber and plywood the comapny stocks can be traced to certified forests. Additionally, the company is seeking to make sure 25% of its supplies come from FSC-certified forests.

“RONA’s new policy makes it clear to the world that the stewardship of our forests must be held to a higher standard than is the case without certification,” Antony Marcil, president and CEO of FSC of Canada said.

“It confirms the positions of the Pulp, Paper and Woodworkers of Canada, the National Aboriginal Association, hundreds of Canadians printers, thousands of their customers…and many respected environmental organizations,” he added.
