The $50 million debt the idled Gaspesia paper mill owes might take on new meaning. Quebec Superior Court Justice Paul Chaput is contemplating a request to lift creditor protection the mill has had for the past year.

The request comes from a group of construction businessmen who are looking to clear a path to sue those responsible for shutting down the mill. Although details of the looming lawsuits have not been released, the targets of them have, namely former administrators Frank Dottori, president of Tembec, and Andr L’Ecuyer, president of the forestry division of Quebec’s investment agency Societ gnrale de financement.
