According to a report by Associated Press, the company decided to shut the facility because of the construction industry’s sluggish state. The report further confirmed GP as saying it will revisit the mill’s viability next year, and might possibly reopen it then.
Hourly employees at the mill will be entitled to a total of 60 days of pay with benefits, while salaried workers will receive severance packages.
Employees will be able to apply for other positions within the company, which also owns a plywood plant and a pulp and paper mill near Palatka.
